Excerpt

Scarred by childhood abuse and neglect, I unknowingly invited darkness into my adult life. Then I met Rodney Oliver the charismatic and talented love of my life, in 1993. Behind his captivating facade – sharp dresser, soulful singer, skilled carpenter, passionate lover, athlete, and hard worker – hid a devastating secret: crack cocaine addiction. I was blind to the perilous path I was about to tread.

As our relationship spiraled out of control, so did my life. I ballooned from a size 7/8 to 270 pounds trapped in a vicious cycle of codependency. My story is told through poignant poetry and is a heart-wrenching exploration of love, addiction, and survival.

This is a stark reminder: loving an addict from a distance is not enough; they will destroy you first. “My journey is a testament to the resilience of the human spirit and a warning to those trapped in abusive relationships: please, leave before it’s too late. Learn from my story, and let poetry be your solace and strength.”

This book is very soulful and heartfelt. It takes you on a journey of a woman swept off her feet with love and then completely broken by that same love. With this book being a book of poetry it makes it even more captivating. The emotions of the author is truly captured through the expressions of poetry. The story is very relatable to anyone who has ever loved someone more than they loved themselves. It can also be very helpful to anyone trying to overcome or heal from hidden scars. It’s a very uplifting story about surviving and overcoming being broken, overcoming constant abuse.I would definitely recommend others to read Scars From an Addict. It’s a page turner!
